We’re looking for new collaborators!

If you are a young musician/sound artist, or a young person interested in working in the music industry, we’d love for you to come and get involved with Tonetic Records.

What is Tonetic?

Tonetic Records is a creative music community that amplifies young voices. We provide an inclusive space for artists to: develop music skills, gain performance experience, connect with others, and access vital industry knowledge.

We are a record label based at the youth charity Arts Education Exchange, and have a music studio in Cliftonville, Margate. In 2022 we worked with artists ONA and bedbugz releasing music, merch and music videos, and we now want new artists to release music with, as well as help run the label.

What will I do?

Develop music skills

We have a recording studio that artists can use easily, with access to a range of music software, including Logic Pro and Ableton Live as well as a variety of instruments to allow artists access to creative tools. You will also be able to consult Arts Education Exchange staff, who represent a wealth of experience in both production and songwriting.

Gain live performance experience

We will be putting on live events in the local area and online, and encourage you to get involved with all aspects of organising and facilitating these events, as well as having the opportunity to perform in a safe and supportive environment.

Connect with others

We’ll encourage you to collaborate within the label, and we’ll provide opportunities for collaboration with other local creatives, with a focus in sharing creative knowledge, advice, feedback and moments of joy. We want you to form meaningful connections that last. We’ll have monthly meet ups to talk about everyone’s ideas and plan events, as well as weekly studio time slots, and one to one drop in sessions with Tom, the label lead.

Access vital industry knowledge

We will be hosting industry masterclasses throughout the year, where you’ll meet and participate in workshops with music industry professionals. We’ll also work with you in terms of promoting and publishing your music, as well as offering some label management opportunities.

Record and release your music!

We’ll provide you with the info and tools you need for recording, releasing and promoting your music. As well as giving you experience and insight into the experience of running a small label.

  • Are interested in working in the music industry

  • Consider themselves an artist / band

  • Feel that they can’t / dont have the tools to support their music

  • Feel that they don’t have a peer network in music

  • Have faced barriers to making music or learning about music and the industry

Who can apply?

We are looking for young people aged 18 - 24 who:

If you are in a band, you can apply as an individual representing your band. If you are not a musician and just want to learn about the music industry you can still apply! If we can’t get you in on the main project, there will be opportunities to access industry and networking events.

How to apply

Please send in your application by the 28th of March 2023

If you have any questions about the project, or would like some help applying, please email Tom at tom@artsedex.org.

The project will take place between 3rd of April 2023 and 31st of January 2024, with studio sessions and events taking place on weekdays, but planned around everyone’s availability. The studio will also be accessible during school holidays, with studio sessions, events and larger projects taking place during this time.

The project will kick off with two weeks during the Easter break, Monday 3rd April to Friday 14th April 2023. During this time, you can come into our studio (if you can!), get to know each other, and talk about your ideas and needs.
